It's a dead man's party...who could ask for more? Fiesta de los Muertos is a new theme camp run by some experienced Burners and enthusiastic newbies, who wanted to step up our participation and bring one of our favorite holidays to the playa. Our camp will be Dia de los Muertos themed, centered around a geodesic dome, which will serve as our art project, workshop center, and chill space. It will be decorated after the style of Dia de los Muertos and will feature an ofrenda, or traditional Day of the Dead altar. It will also have a light display set to music. We will have hanging chairs and room for snuggling, and on some nights, hookah and a small bar. We will also have a burn barrel outside. We will be offering workshops on Dia de los Muertos crafts, and on Thursday night, a Day of the Dead parade, reminscent of the giant one in Tucson in November of every year, though on a much smaller scale, and an afterparty at our Dome of the Dead. If you'd like to participate, you might want to think about bringing a Dia de los Muertos costume to the playa for the parade, or just come as you are. If you come by the dome early (6 pm) we will paint your face as a "calavera" (skull) or anything you wish, or provide you the supplies to do so yourself. Please check our schedule of events for more information. We've been placed at 7:30 and Intertidal. We
specifically asked for deep placement, in order to provide a cozy
little neighborhood camp, closer to home and close to the
portapotties, and in the middle of neighborhood playa life.
Thinking about camping with us? We do have a few spaces left. Here's what we offer: a guaranteed space to camp, space for your vehicle and tent or RV, access to the kitchen, shower and shade area, prime access to our snuggle/chill space which should be cool during the day and warm at night, and our friendly and relaxed company. We're the stay up late, sleep in late, grab a bite and run types, but we also love nothing more than sitting around enjoying conversation with new friends and old. Here's what we want in our campers: First and foremost, a serious commitment to LNT, to keep the camp, dome, public and private spaces clean and MOOP free; camp dues of $40 per head plus a bottle of something for the bar; a commitment to either help us set up on Monday or tear down the following Sunday during the day (if you can commit to both, we will reduce your camp dues substantially); and radical self reliance - please bring everything you need - food, enough water for drinking and showering, supplies, shelter and everything you will need to survive in a harsh desert climate. If we sound like a good fit for you, please send email by clicking on the image below. Whether you're camping with us, participating in our events or just popping in to say hello and enjoy our chill space, we look forward to seeing you on the playa! Have a great burn! |
